Aylesbury FCAshford will entertain Aylesbury FC at Short Lane on Saturday in what should be a keenly contested match as both teams will come into the game on the back of a number of unbeaten league matches.

Aylesbury made a slow start to the season, failing to win any of their opening seven league games but they have since made up for that by winning their last four in a row, including a 3-2 home win over Biggleswade Town on Tuesday evening, thanks to two late goals from Brian Haule, who also numbers Ashford amongst his many previous clubs, having made 41 appearances for this club, and scored 12 goals under Mark Butler’s stewardship.  As a result of their recent surge they are now just two places and one point below us in the table, although we have a match in hand.

Last season honours between the clubs were even.  Ashford managed  a good result at home, winning by four goals to one, courtesy of Ashley Lodge, Scott Weight, Mark Bitmead and Dan Brown but Aylesbury had their revenge a few weeks later, beating us at their ground by three goals to one, Bitmead being the Ashford scorer.

Following Tuesday’s win at Ash in the Surrey Senior Cup, Ashford find themselves unbeaten in the last five matches and some of the recent performances suggest that this squad is really beginning to gel.  Ashford have two matches in hand over the majority of teams above them in the table and a win tomorrow could see them on the fringes of the play-off positions and in a very handy position.

Prior to Saturday’s, match there will be an official opening at 2.00 p.m. of the new sign above the bar, to signify that it has been re-named “Ernies’s Bar” in fond memory of our late President Ernie Britzman, who died almost a year ago.  We hope that members of Ernie’s family will be present and we invite anyone who knew Ernie to come down for the official opening.

A big well done to Club Manager Phil Marshall, who has raised £347 following the ceremonial shaving of his head on the pitch last week.  Phil anticipates that his company will double that amount so it will be a very decent sum going to “Save the Children”.  Phil wishes to thank everybody who contributed.

The Suburban team have travelled all the way to Newport Pagnall Town this afternoon but on Sunday, the Ladies are still out of action whilst they hopefully recruit a few new players and wait for the current crop of injuries to ease.  There is plenty of Junior action though and these are the fixtures we have received courtesy of Kelvin P.
