Ed ThomasIn terms of overall possession, Ashford were probably some way behind Beaconsfield SYCOB on Saturday but defended as if their lives depended upon it and scored two unstoppable goals, one at each end of the match, to record a 2-0 win over their high flying opponents.

The first came in the second minute of the match and was a spectacular effort from Ed Thomas (pictured) who volleyed home from some 30 yards.  Ed caught the ball so cleanly that the keeper had little chance despite the distance the ball travelled.

From then on it was Beaconsfield who did much of the attacking but they lacked penetration and Ashford, in the main coped reasonably comfortably.  As the game drew to its conclusion, they sealed the win with a supreme effort from substitute Perry Luckins whose twist to send the ball into the net from a wide angle again gave the keeper no chance.

Ashford’s third win in a row keeps them bubbling along quite nicely, the next one up being a midweek trip to Barton Rovers on Tuesday evening, subject to the weather of course.  More on that one tomorrow.

The Suburban team were beaten by a solitary goal away at Leighton Town.

Better news for the ladies team who on Sunday travelled to Islington Borough and came away with a welcomed 4-2 win thanks to goals from Amy Fry (2), Kee Kee Kobus and an OG.
