have signed 24 year old striker Matt Baxter on dual registration forms with Staines Lammas and he goes straight into the 1st Team squad to face AFC Hayes this evening.

Matt, of course, came through the junior ranks with Ashford and made 20 1st Team appearances as a youngster, the last being in the 2008-09 season, before a serious injury set him back just as he looked set for a good career at senior level.  When he eventually recovered he played for Molesey and then Northwood before joining Staines Lammas, where he has been prolific for our neighbours.  His work commitments have sometimes prevented him from playing but with that problem largely resolved, he looks set once again to prove that he can play and score goals at this level.

Other than that Ashford will be keen to put Saturday’s overall disappointing performance behind them as they entertain an AFC Hayes team, who themselves have not won any of their last six league encounters although that sequence includes a fighting 2-2 draw with Godalming.  On Saturday they drew one apiece at home to Thatcham Town and will arrive at Short Lane just one place and one point behind Ashford, albeit that they have played two more matches than Ashford.  Earlier in the season Ashford lost at Hayes by three goals to one, ours coming from Samad Kazi.

The Under-18’s got the midweek off to an excellent start by winning at Wingate & Finchley by three goals to two in the Ryman Youth League, to go third in the table.  No details yet but Wingate is always a difficult place to get to, especially in the midweek rush hour, so well done to Mark Hughes and his team.

The Suburban team also have something of a journey this evening (Tuesday) when they travel to meet South Park FC from the Reigate area in the final group match in the Reserve Shield competition.
