Chertsey TownAshford drew one apiece at Chertsey Town on Tuesday evening.

Neither team was at full strength with Harry Knock being added to Ashford’s  list of absentees.  Nevertheless a bright enough game developed and in terms of possession the first half was fairly even.  The scoreline wasn’t though, as Chertsey took an early lead when Scott Weight lost the ball on the edge of the area, a low effort giving Paul McCarthy no chance.

The second half was different with Ashford generally dominating possession.  It took just seven minutes before they were level, when Javonne Molloy sniffed out another goal from close in.  Ashford’s main threat though was coming from Matt Baxter and he will be wondering how he didn’t score.  The answer to that conundrum was the Chertsey keeper Gary Ross, who reigned supreme in the home goal pulling off two sensational saves to deny Ashford all three points.

Chertsey sometimes looked dangerous on the break and Paul McCarthy also had to be sharp a few times but in the end there was no further scoring and a draw it remained.

There are just three 1st Team matches left this season and on Saturday Ashford break new ground with their first ever senior visit to Royston Town, who have done very well in their first campaign in the Southern League after winning promotion last season.  Indeed they are still in with a reasonable chance of making the play-off positions and will doubtless be fully fired up.  Despite having little to play for now other than pride, Ashford will nevertheless be keen to finish as high as possible and with the possibility of a stronger squad to pick from, manager Paul Burgess will ensure maximum efforts from the Tangerines.

Kick off is at the usual 3.00 pm and the address of the ground is Garden Walk, Royston, Herts, SG8 7HT
