Sir Bobby Robson National Football DayAshford Town (Middlesex) FC is proud to be supporting Sir Bobby Robson National Football Day — a celebration of grassroots football and the 400,000 volunteers without whom we wouldn’t have a national game.

The FA has supported and developed football over the last 150 years to be the most popular team sport in England, played regularly by many millions and supported across the country by the incredible efforts of 400,000 dedicated volunteers.

In recognition of the grassroots of our game, The FA has created ‘Sir Bobby Robson National Football Day’ — a celebration of grassroots football and those volunteers who do so much to support the game.

Sir Bobby Robson was one of football’s ‘good guys’ who made a huge contribution to football communities across the country. As such The FA is delighted that Sir Bobby Robson National Football Day will carry Sir Bobby’s name in turn raising awareness of the work of his cancer charity — the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation.

Sir Bobby Robson National Football Day will take place on Saturday 10 August 2013 to coincide with the start of the new football season. On this date Ashford Town (Middlesex) will take part in a whole game celebration that includes 150 community football events taking place across the country — giving local communities the opportunity to get involved with their local club or league. The Ash Trees are joining forces with neighbours Staines Town to stage a festival of local football, which will include meetings between the First Teams of the two clubs, as well as matches between their respective Under-18 and Under-12 teams.

The FA’s Community Partner McDonald’s is joining the celebration on Sunday 11th August 2013 at The FA Community Shield — where winners of The FA Community Awards 2013 presented by McDonald’s will be announced. These awards recognise and reward people across the country who make a difference to grassroots football in their local community.

General Secretary of the club, Gareth Coates said: “We are thrilled to be working alongside Staines Town to be staging a celebration of local football. On10th August from 11.00am, Ashford Town (Middlesex) will be holding a free FA Tesco Skills session, followed by three matches against our friends and neighbours from Staines Town to celebrate Sir Bobby Robson National Football Day. Admission to the First Team match is just £5 for adults and £3 for concessions and all paying spectators will be entered into a draw to win tickets to England v Moldova. Children under the age of 16 will be admitted free. Everyone at Ashford Town (Middlesex) would encourage our fans and supporters to help us create the game that everyone can be part and proud of by getting involved.”
