Ashford celebrate winning the competition in 2012Ashford must now put Saturday behind them as they entertain Cockfosters FC in the 1st Round of the Help for Heros Middlesex Charity Cup this evening.  Cockfosters are members of the Spartan South Midlands League and currently sit in sixteenth place, although that position is false  to an extent as they have games in hand over most of the clubs around them.

They enjoyed a league win by two goals to nil over Hatfield Town on Saturday by two goals to nil and have also reached the 1st Round Proper of the FA Vase.  Our paths have only crossed once before and that was way back in September 1992 when we managed to win 2-0 in a 1st Qualifying Round tie in the Middlesex Senior Cup.  Our scorers back on that evening were Andy Smith and, with a rare goal, Ian Miles.

There is no extra time tonight as the rules of the competition require that the match goes straight to penalties if the scores are level after 90 minutes.  The winners will be at home to either Enfield Town or Hanworth Villa in the 2nd Round and by co-incidence that match is also being played this evening.

The Under-18’s lost again last night, this time away to Camberley Town by two goals to one but were desperately unlucky, conceding the winning goal with the last kick of the match, after equalising five minutes earlier.  The lads need to persevere though as there wasn’t too much wrong with their play last night, with some good football on show.
