Beaconsfield SYCOB

Please note that this evening’s match away to AFC Hayes has been postponed as their pitch is waterlogged.  The Staines Lammas match this evening at Short Lane is on at the moment though, if you fancy some football.

It was a similar story on Saturday as Ashford lost by two goals to nil at Beaconsfield.  In other words there was bags of effort and the team spirit, considering the dismal run and the many changes in personnel, was a credit to Ben Murray and his management team.  Sadly though Beaconsfield had the edge and the result was another defeat, this time by two goals to nil, the second goal coming from the penalty spot although, to be fair, there was no disputing the award.

In the second half when the score was just 0-1, Ashford had something of a purple patch, with the home keeper pulling off a great save and the ball being cleared off the line.  Had Ashford been able to get a goal during that period, there may just have been a different outcome but it was not to be.

Ashford now have two vital matches in a week, the results of which will be a determining factor in the destiny of the season.  Tomorrow evening, the team make the short trip to play AFC Hayes in a re-arranged league match, kick-off 7.45 pm, whilst on Saturday, fellow strugglers Chertsey Town come to Short Lane.

Although small in numbers, the Club’s supporters were superb on Saturday in their encouragement for the team and we need you all there (and a few more if possible) both tomorrow evening and on Saturday.

Neither the Suburban side nor the Under-18’s have a match this week but the Suburban side are due to return to action next Saturday with a trip in the League to Knaphill.
