Sadly today’s match has been postponed.  The torrential rain which went on much longer than forecast has left the pitch completely flooded in parts.  Even Short Lane itself is flooded outside the cricket club, although you can drive through it.  Don’t forget though that the club will be open all day and it would be good to see people coming down as there won’t be much football on anywhere in this part of the world.

Whether or not the match will go ahead is anyone’s guess as at 4.30pm on Friday afternoon when this is being written but with the rain due to peter out around midnight and hopefully a drying wind, the club will make every effort to get the match on.

Scheduled visitors are Aylesbury FC against whom Ashford suffered an ignominious defeat earlier in the season, not so much because of the scoreline of 0-5 but the manner of the performance on the day which was an embarrassment.  There are not too many of that squad still involved at the club and even though they have not yet been able to turn things round, the current young squad can at least be guaranteed to give 100% in their efforts.  Aylesbury have also seen changes, including managerial, with ex-Slough boss Steve Bateman at the helm.  They have not managed to play a league match since 28 December when they won by a solitary goal at Egham, and find themselves just three places above Ashford in the table at the present time.

We will put up a notice on the web site as soon as possible in the morning once we know the situation but if anyone is available to lend a hand with the pitch tomorrow morning please come along.
