Tonight’s match has been POSTPONED.  The prolonged downpour at lunch time today has led to this evening’s match once again falling foul of the weather and it will now have to be put back to next Tuesday.

The big European tie, Manchester City v Barcelona will be on on the Clubhouse.

Ashford should finally return to action on Tuesday evening with a home tie against Harefield United in the quarter-final of the Middlesex Senior Cup, with the winners drawn away to either Wealdstone or AFC Hayes in the semi-final.  If the County web site is correct, that tie is due to take place tomorrow evening.

Harefield are members of the Spartan South Midlands League and are currently in 13th place.  Like ourselves they have been inactive lately due to the weather, their most recent match being a 1-2 defeat at the hands of Holmer Green.  Despite the fact that Harefield would be just about our most local derby were we to find ourselves in the Spartan S Midlands League next season, which could happen, our paths have rarely crossed, with just three meetings over the years, the most recent coming in November 2006, when we scraped through in the 1st Round of this competition winning 7-6 on penalties after a 3-3 draw.

After the enforced break Ashford can perhaps look upon this evening’s match as a new start.  Although the league table doesn’t lie, recent performances suggest that the latest squad is just beginning to find its feet and one of the few bright moments this season came in the previous round when we won by 3 goals to 1 at Ryman Premier side Enfield Town.  There has to be a winner this evening so there will be extra time and penalties if necessary.

The Under-18’s are due to be away to Potters Bar Town this evening whilst tomorrow on Wednesday, the Suburban side will entertain Knaphill Reserves in the League tomorrow evening (Wednesday), kick-off 7.45 p.m.
