The Suburban side defeated Knaphill Res by three goals to one on Tuesday evening, thanks to goals from Russell Canderton, playing his first game in ages following his skiing holiday, James Owosifan and Jack Beadle.

Ashford led by a solitary goal at half-time, but Knaphill equalised with around twenty minutes to go with an excellent finish after a mix-up in the home defence.  Owosifan restored the lead soon afterwards though when he chased down a poor back pass, eventually tapping the ball into an empty net and Beadle made it certain with a decent effort just minutes later.

The pitch was sticky but played quite well and the prognosis for Saturday’s 1st Team match at home to Uxbridge is good at the moment.  Three goals in the last five minutes gave Uxbridge a 5-1 win earlier in the season but they have not been in good form recently though, with just one win in their last nine league matches.  We may, of course, see former Ashford keeper Paul McCarthy between the sticks for the visitors.

The Middlesex Senior Cup match at home to Harefield will now be played next Tuesday (25 Feb) and will replace the scheduled away trip up to Kettering Town for which there is no new date as yet.

The Suburban side are in action again on Saturday when they make the reverse trip to Knaphill.
