Ashford lost by four goals to nil against Uxbridge on Saturday. Unlike the previous defeat by the same scoreline at Egham, which was harsh on the Tangerines, it was difficult to find too many positives, as Uxbridge, aided and abetted by some severe defensive errors, romped to a three nil lead, including a penalty, at half-time, effectively winning the match in the opening half.

Ashford battled quite bravely in the second period but despite having plenty of the ball, they rarely troubled the Uxbridge defence, leaving the visitors to break near the end from an Ashford corner, to rub it in with a fourth goal.

Ashford can perhaps take some solace from the performance of two of their subs, namely Tom Brunton, who has had very little football recently but came on to provide Ashford’s best two efforts late on, both saved, and debutant Greg Ngeno, who showed one or two cultured touches.  One could reasonably assume that both may be in line for a starting place on Tuesday evening, when Ashford entertain Harefield United in the Quarter-Final of the Middlesex Senior Cup, for the right to play Wealdstone in the semis.  Harefield are members of the Spartan S. Midlands League, in which they currently hold 14th position.  On Saturday they lost 0-2 at AFC Dunstable.

Before that, the Under-18’s will entertain Northwood U18’s in a Ryman Youth League match on Monday evening, kick-off 7.45 p.m.  There is no Suburban League match this midweek.
