It seemed for quite a long while on Tuesday evening that Ashford would finally break their losing run against Harefield United in the Middlesex Senior Cup but a 90th minute penalty for the visitors ensured another defeat.

Nobody could question the commitment of the side that Ben Murray put out and with Harefield equally committed it was a far better match than the one against Uxbridge on Saturday, at least as far as Ashford supporters were concerned.

Ashford took the lead inside three minutes when James Awosifan took advantage of some dogged work by Conor Moody to beat the visiting keeper from close in.  Sadly that was as good as it got, although as the match was heading to its conclusion Harefield, apart from one thunderous effort superbly saved by Tyler Tobin,  had not really looked like equalising despite greater amounts of possession.  The game had become a little fractious and when the visitors went down to ten men following a straight red with around 20 minutes left, it seemed their hopes may have gone.

Just as in the very first match of the season at Daventry though, the dismissal seemed to galvanise the visitors and they got well on top for the final quarter.  An equaliser came with some fifteen minutes left and Ashford just could not steady the ship.  Extra time was looming but in the final seconds a rash tackle from Jim Mann gave away a penalty from which the visitors notched the winner, and a match away to Wealdstone in the semi-finals.
