The Board of Directors met yesterday evening with manager Ben Murray and it can now be confirmed that he will remain as manager for the forthcoming season.  A club spokesman said “although Ben had a tough time last season in his first managerial role, he is an exceptionally bright coach and we would be daft to jettison a young man who will clearly continue to develop his management skills as he gains more experience.”

Although no definite information has been forthcoming, Ashford are preparing for life in the Combined Counties League, when even the longest journey will seem like a local derby in comparison to some of the travelling undertaken over the last ten years.  Another compensation is that the club will be back in the FA Vase, with a realistic chance of doing well in it, as opposed to the FA Trophy.

In the meantime, even though for the first time in many seasons, Ashford had not won at least something, the Annual Presentation Dinner took place last Friday at the Moon in Moon Chinese Restaurant in Sunbury, with almost 100 people present and what a good venue it was.  Mr. Cheung and his staff could not do enough to make it a successful evening and we are grateful to them.

A fuller report of the proceedings will be on line shortly.

In the meantime pre-season matches are already being arranged although there will not be too much time for them as the CCL season starts on Saturday 2 August.  So far, and subject to the pitch being ready in time, we will play at home to South Park on Saturday 19 July and against Staines Lammas on Tuesday 22 July.  On 26 July we are staging the European Championship match between Great Britain Deaf and Sweden Deaf

We can end on more good news as we have agreed an excellent  sponsorship arrangement with JAS Forwarding whose offices  are around the corner from us.  Our thanks go to Managing Director Noel Broadbent and indeed to Tori and Alan Cox who brokered the deal
