Apologies for the delay but we can now report upon the Club’s Annual Presentation Evening held at the Moon in Moon Chinese Restaurant where Mr. Cheung looked after 93 of us.  The food was delicious and the service excellent.

One of two of our managers possibly need to brush up on their public speaking skills but it only added to the fun of the evening with Sunday manager Gary Tomany first up.  He eventually announced awards for Chris Getty, Tom Chaffy, Albert Ball and Glen Baxter.

Up stepped the polished Leon Turner whose Under-18 side playing in the tough Ryman Youth League, had shown a distinct improvement in the second half of the season.  He gave his “Player of the Year” award to Sonny Huntley whilst the “Players’ Player” went to Jared Fountain.

The Suburban League and young player of the season was Alex Fisher, who will be knocking on the 1st Team door next season for certain after getting a few games under his belt in this last campaign.

Manager Ben Murray, distinctly unpolished, addressed us all at that point and two hours later we found out that his player of the year was goalkeeper Tyler Tobin, who had a busy season but excelled from the moment he came into the 1st Team.  The Players’ Player of the Year went to long serving Scott Weight, another richly deserved accolade.

Graham Cooley, who along with wife Sue, had donated the superb raffle prize of a weekend in the New Forest, then announced the Supporters’ Player of the Year.  There was a brand new trophy this year, kindly supplied by Alan Hill, who sadly could not be present and the popular winner was Tyler Tobin.

The final award was announced by Chairman Dave Baker and this was the Jack Constable “Clubman of the Year”, which is regarded as the Club’s most prestigious award, going to the person, male or female, who, in the opinion of the Committee, has done most to enhance the Club on and/or off the field over the course of the season.  The deserving winner this year was Simon Munns who has worked tirelessly throughout the season for the Club.  Simon had not been able to be present but the award was presented a few days later at the start of the AGM.

Several members continued to enjoy Mr. Cheung’s hospitality until the early hours of the morning but a veil must be drawn over that, especially with tales of a certain Committee member’s wife allegedly doing favours for one of our devoted supporters!
