Supporters will recall that, recently, the Member of Parliament for Spelthorne was one of a number of Conservative.MPs who put their name to a report advocating expansion of Heathrow Airport and, specifically, a new runway that would incorporate the club's site, along with the rest of Stanwell.
The club wrote to Dr Kwasi Kwarteng to seek clarification on his position. Dr Kwarteng has responded to our letter and, at their meeting last night, the Directors and Management Committee debated as to whether this letter should be published on the website in the same way as the original was.
The majority view was that, in the interests of keeping both the club’s supporters and the wider community informed, the letter should be published and it is therefore available to download.
It is not standard practice for the club to make correspondence public but, given that the original letter was made available from the club website, it was decided that, in the interests of balance, the response from Dr Kwarteng should be treated in the same way so that he can have his “right of reply”.
While the club remains opposed to any proposal that would have an adverse effect on Stanwell and its community, we would like to thank Dr Kwarteng for his letter. We will continue to work with our neighbours to ensure that Stanwell is at the forefront of any future debate on this issue and will monitor the situation with interest.
