Good Start for Under-18s
Ashford’s new look Under 18s made an encouraging start on Monday evening, beating their counterparts from Northwood by three goals to nil.
Early exchanges were relatively even but once big Eva Battasoul had given the Tangerines the lead on 19 minutes, when he chased down a poor back header to the visiting keeper, Ashford generally assumed control.
It was Battasoul again on 35 minutes, with Josh Eveleigh completing the scoring on 68 minutes. Northwood continued playing football throughout the match but Ashford should probably have had more goals, with the lively Joel Large missing two good chances near the end and other chances also went begging.
In a good team performance, unofficial man of the match (i.e. mine and Dan Butler’s choice) Ashford “man of the match” was right back Joel Lynch who was solid at the back and always ready to get forward to good effect.
Other results on the first evening of the season were: Camberley Town 1 Potters Bar Town 0, Hayes & Yeading 5 Bedfont Sports 2 and, unexpectedly, Wingate & Finchley 3 Staines Town 2.
Ashford’s next outing comes on Wednesday 29 August, when they travel to Potters Bar Town
