The team has received plaudits for the manner in which they have played in their last two matches against Dartford and Sutton but plaudits do not make points and following two narrow defeats, Ashford will be keen to do better on Saturday when they visit Aveley for the first time since November 2000, when goals from Lee Holman (2), Andy Frost and Steve Scott enabled them to pull off a resounding 4-0 victory. It will certainly not be easy as Ashford will run into a team in generally good form, whose recent record includes a 2-1 win over Canvey Island last Monday which has put them in the semi-finals of the League Cup. Prior to that, they suffered a league defeat at the hands of Harrow Borough but this followed a run of three consecutive wins, with home triumphs over both Maidstone and Billericay and an impressive 4-1 win at Canvey. Such is the topsy-turvy nature of the division though, that they had previously endured six league games in a row without registering a win. Admission to the ground at Aveley is £9, with concessions for OAP’s at £6 and children under 16 at £1. The address of the ground is Mill Field, Mill Road, Aveley, Essex, RM15 4SJ. There is no coach running for this match. Meanwhile the Suburban side have a tough league match at home to Sutton United Reserves but will be boosted by the League Cup win against AFC Wimbledon in midweek. The Southern Combination Cup match, at home to Westfield, has been re-arranged for Thursday 1 April.
