Two goals in four minutes at the end of the first half helped Ashford Town to a 2-0 win at Leatherhead in the League Cup tonight.  The opening quarter of the game was end to end but the Tangerines took control and took the lead in the 37th minute when a Scott Todd run and chipped ball found the diving header of Paul Johnson, (pictured)who gave his side the lead.  Four minutes later it was 2-0 when Gavin Smith capitalised on a defensive error to run through and score.

The Tanners gave Ashford's much changed side a real game, and had much more possession in the second half.  However, their main sight of goal was from distance and Craig Ross and his defence were equal to the home side's strikes.  Indeed, Ashford soaked up the Surrey side's threat to finish the match the stronger team, with substitutes Warren Harris and Byron Harrison both going close to adding a third goal.

Ashford progress to the Third Round, the draw for which will be made on Friday.  A match report will follow.
