Preview: Sat 15 Sep 18, Tooting & Mitcham United v Ashford

It seems like an age since we had a match but on Saturday Ashford finally return to action with an away match at Tooting & Mitcham United, who were relegated from the Bostik Premier Division at the end of last season. Now under new management, they appear to have stabilised being still in the FA Cup and sitting one point below us in the league table.

We have had a number of meetings with our opponents in the past, perhaps the most notable from our point of view being in August 2008 when we announced our arrival in the Premier Division of the Ryman League with a 7-0 home victory, scorers being Byron Harrison (2), Paul Johnson, Warren Harris, Adam Logie, Ricky Wellard (pen) and Gavin Smith.

That result was very much the exception though with honours roughly even over the years. The most recent meeting was a friendly in August 2012 when Kofi Lockhart-Adams scored our goal in a 1-3 defeat.
The address of Tooting’s smartly appointed ground is Imperial Fields Bishopsford Road Morden Surrey SM4 6BF and kick-off is 3.00 p.m.

Our next home match is not until the following Saturday when we are dedicating the match against Bracknell Town to Dave Baker, our ex-chairman who so sadly died earlier this summer. We hope that a number of Dave’s family members will be present and we shall doubtless go on into the evening, reliving our times with Dave in the club.

The Ladies, on Sunday will be looking to preserve their 100% record when they travel to meet Tottenham Hotspur Development in the Premier Division of the Greater London Women’s League and there are plenty of junior matches on Sunday
