Preview: South Park v Ashford, Saturday 8 December 2018

Saturday looms and it is due to find the Tangerines travelling to meet South Park FC in a league match.

The address of the ground is King Georges Field, Whitehall Lane, South Park, Reigate, Surrey, RH2 8LG. Be careful with your Sat Nav as some will send you down a lot of muddy lanes to get there. The match could be in doubt if the rain continues and any messages that we receive will be put on here at some stage.

After a very successful rise up the ranks from Division One of the CCL, including a trip to Tranmere Rovers in the FA Trophy, South Park seem to have hit something of a stumbling block this season. It seemed a shrewd move to bring back ex-Merstham manager Mick O’Sullivan back into management but it did not work out for whatever reason and he has now left the club, with Jay Lovett taking over.

Apart from a couple of friendly encounters, we have only met South Park once in a competitive match and that was last season when we travelled there in the Surrey Senior Cup. We went two up but South Park rallied to earn a draw and we lost the resulting penalty shoot out 2-4.

The Ladies continued their fine work on Thursday evening with an impressive 10-2 victory over Margate Ladies, a result that sends them into the semi-final of the Isthmian Reposs Women’s Cup. Two of the quarter finals have still to be played but Ashford will face one of the following: Charlton Athletic Ladies, Worthing Ladies or Leyton Orient Ladies, or Tonbridge Angels Ladies or Enfield Town Ladies.

The goals were going in regularly last night with Ashley scoring three and Lavinia two, with the other scorers to be noted and although Margate never gave up and scored two good goals themselves, the result was never in doubt once Ashford went ahead. This coming Sunday the team is away to Colne Valley Ladies.
