Preview Ware v Ashford, Sat 17 Nov 18

Published by Springett on

Two successive home victories have taken Ashford to 8th in the Bostik table and the Tangerines will be hoping to build on that when they visit Ware FC on Saturday. For what it is worth at this time of the season, a win would probably see us in the play-off positions

The address of the ground is: Ware FC, Wodson Park, Wadesmill Road, Ware, Hertfordshire, SG12 0UQ. Admission is £10 (concessions £5 and children under-14 free). We will be playing on a 3G surface. It is now one of our longest trips, being around 52 miles via the M25 to Junction 25 and then up the A10, although alternative routes are possible.

Ware currently sit in 14th place in the table, seven points below the Tangerines and their recent results show a 1-3 home defeat against Hayes & Yeading, followed by a draw one apiece at Tooting last Saturday, despite having a man sent off with 20 minutes to go. We have not met in a league match since the year 2000-2001, our very first at Step 4, when we managed the double, winning 3-1 away, our first ever away match in the then Ryman League, and 3-0 at home. Our paths did not cross again until September 2006 when we won a League Cup (Westview Cup) tie by the only goal of the game and then not until October 2007 when we were heavily defeated 1-4 in the 1st Qualifying Round of the FA Trophy, our solitary strike coming from Antony Joseph. That was the most recent meeting so it will be eleven years since we last played each other.

After tomorrow, we are away again on Tuesday, at Camberley Town FC, in the 2nd Round of the Southern Combination Challenge Cup, kick-off 7.45, to see who goes through to the quarter finals when the winners will be away to either Cobham or Abbey Rangers. Our next league match after tomorrow will be at home to Marlow on Saturday 24 November. We are looking for both a ball sponsor (£75) and a match sponsor (£250) for the game, if anyone feels they can help.

Good luck to the Ladies’ side as they travel to meet Tottenham Hotspur Development on Sunday afternoon. There are also a myriad of junior games going on at Short Lane on Sunday when the bar will be open all day.

Finally for anyone who can’t make it to Ware tomorrow, our partners Southall FC are in action at Short Lane (3.00 p.m.) with an attractive local derby against Spelthorne Sports, managed of course by ex-Ashford stalwart, Paul Burgess.
