I hope that you and your families are well.
Like everyone else we are trying to adjust to the changes that we face, and I want to personally thank all of our committee and board members, staff, supporters, coaches and players for your patience and understanding during this COVID-19 pandemic. A special mention and thank you must go to our ground team who throughout this closed difficult period have maintained our facilities so our club will be ready for the return of football.
It was a very disappointing time for everyone involved that last season had to be cut short, especially because at the time I thought that Russell and the lads had started to hit momentum and were picking up vital results. As we know now, last season’s league was declared null and void, meaning no promotions or relegations, which was personally disappointing for me as I truly believed that we had enough quality to both pick up points and avoid the drop. Due to the loss of home games last season we decided to offer our season ticket holders the option to claim a partial refund on their ticket, but not a single supporter took us up on this offer which shows us how loyal and understanding you are and we want to thank you for this. Of course, if you do happen to change your mind please get in touch where I will be happy to help and discuss.
At the start of the pandemic we setup a “just giving page” and we very quickly raised £1700 which was outstanding considering that this virus was affecting everybody. For everyone who donated we thank you and appreciate it. We have decided to use this money to build an outdoor sheltered area covering 70% of the patio which would make social distancing easier on future match days We have also secured other funding which is being used right now to improve our pitch and facilities around the ground.
Moving on to the new season which as it stands looks set to start around the 19th September, we welcome Luke Tuff and his coaching team and an almost new looking Ashford side. We were lucky that during the coronavirus lockdown we were able to appoint Luke. His reputation and coaching background speak for themselves and I for one am really looking forward to the season ahead. Luke has lined up quite a few preseason games starting with this Saturday against our friends at CB Hounslow. This will be played at a neutral venue and unfortunately, must be played largely behind closed doors due to the current guidelines which prevent spectators attending games.
Please keep an eye on our social media accounts where we will be continuing to update you on future events and news.
I hope to see you all soon at the RPS for a drink, 3 points and a bit of normality.
