Ashford 4 – 3 CB Hounslow

Saturday 1st August 2020 | Preseason Friendly

The Tangerines kicked off the 2020/21 preseason with a win and positive performance against CB Hounslow. Giving new manager Luke Tuffs plenty to be happy about after the turmoil that has been the last few months.

The new look Tuffs Tangerines looked positive and energetic in the opening stages. With intensity the name of the game. Ashford hit the ground running from the kick off, and took the lead in the 3rd minute when Joe Green curled a beautiful effort just under the crossbar from outside the box on the left angle. Just a handful of last seasons squad were on show, but the desire and attacking play was plainly evident in the opening 30 minute period.

With 8 changes made by the Tangerines for the second 30 minute spell, CB Hounslow pulled their way back in to the game on 42 minutes and then took the lead through a penalty in the 56th. Both sides were pressing and looking to get forward which meant for a pretty entertaining first 60 minutes.

Ashford made further changes for the final 30 minute period. Looking to get back to what they had been doing so well in the first 30, and it took less than 10 minutes for them to pull level. Dan Brown heading the second after great work down the left side. Just two minutes later it was 3 when Dale Burnham slotted home cool as you like from a Sam Humphreys corner. Ashford continued to press and were awared a penalty in the 78th minute, which Dan Brown despatched from the spot to make it 4.

CB Hounslow pressed on in the closing stages and scored arguably the goal of the game in the 88th minute. An absolute worldy of a strike from over 35 yards that hit the far corner. They came close with another 30 yard effort shortly after but at the final whistle it was the Tangerines that took the win.

At this stage of the season results are not always main thing to take from each game, but it is always nice to kick off with a win. Ultimately, it was just great to have football back. Thanks again to everyone at CB Hounslow for a great game. We wish them all the very best for the season ahead.

With a lot of new faces we will endeavour to learn the names of the new squad over the coming weeks!
