The Tangerines lost for the second time in the Velocity Trophy, finishing their home group games with a narrow defeat to Northwood.
In an evenly contested match, with two teams lacking confidence and looking for a win, it was Northwood who grabbed the win after a shocking defensive mistake gifted them the only goal of the game.
Both teams looked to pass the ball around, without either side really having much penetration in the final third. Ashford changed their system, with 3 at the back, and bringing back some past players to add some more experience. Scott Todd started the game, and Dan Brown came on as a late substitute. The changes made improvements and Ashford looked more comfortable on the ball, with good energy and movement going forward. Sam Humphreys featured well in a central midfield role, but once again the Tangerines just couldn’t convert their chances. Kelvin Adjei worked hard up-front again, but without much support the goals are still proving hard to come by.
There were definitely more positives to take from the game, even though it was another defeat, and we now look to Saturday where it’s back to league action against Barking at the RPS.
