BEDFONT SPORTS 0 – 0 ASHFORD
Saturday 22 Feb 2020 | Bedfont Sports Recreation Ground
BetVictor Isthmian League – South Central Division
It was close but no cigar for the Tangerines on a windy afternoon in Bedfont.
Back on the road for the short trip to local rivals Bedfont Sports, Ashford arrived off the back of two wins with no goals conceded and looking to continue their upward turn in fortune.
The 3G surface meant there were no worries about a waterlogged pitch this week, but the wind was certainly looking to play a big part in the game. And right from the kick-off it was obvious that both sides needed to keep the ball on the deck where possible! The opening exchanges were very even, with no real chances, although Bedfont enjoyed more territorial advantage. Ashford came closest to breaking the deadlock on 15 minutes when Aaron Petch floated in a great free-kick from out side the box, but his effort was just wide of the right hand post.
Ashford got the second half underway and with the game picking up where it left off at half-time. Bedfont were very content to knock the ball around and across the back four, keeping possession. It wasn’t until the 61st minute that the Tangerines created a good attacking opportunity, a one-two between Aaron Petch and Kelvin Adjei ending in a squared pass to Hafid Bounyafe on the right but his shot was saved well by Dimitris Kyriatzis. Three minutes later Ashford created another good chance, Hafid Bounyafe the provider this time teeing up Sam Humphreys, but his shot was high and wide. The Tangerines added another chance shortly after this when Kelvin Adjei broke down the left and fizzed a low ball across the goal, but there was nobody in the six yard box to connect with it. Kyriatzis then made another good low save as the game moved in to the last 10 minutes. Ashford probably then had the best chance to win the game on 83 minutes when substitute Elijah Ogunseye cut back on to his right superbly, hitting a good low shot that beat everyone except the foot of the post!
Honours even, which was probably a fair result across the 90, but it was Kyriatzis who was the ever so slightly busier of the two keepers that kept it level in the dying minutes again. For Ashford it was definitely a good away point gained, and another good clean sheet.
