Ashford bowed out of the FA Trophy after a poor second half performance which saw them concede four goals.

After an even first forty minutes Canvey Island took the lead with a deflected strike from outside the box after Ashford had surrendered the ball in midfield. This was harsh on Josh Wilson who had dealt with everything the host team had thrown at him up to that point. Prior to that Max Webb’s shot was pushed round the post by the hosts keeper who also had to tip Tom Brunton’s deflected cross over the crossbar for a corner.

At the start of the second half the hosts scored a cracker from the left hand side with a strike from 30 yards that flew into the top corner. After that Ashford then failed to clear a corner convincingly, and the ball was turned in after being headed back into the 6 yard box. The Tangerines were then opened up twice more by a buoyant home team which ensured their passage through to the next round. A disappointing night in the end for Ashford who now need to bounce back quickly for the league visit to Uxbridge on Saturday.
