Ashford Ladies ended their season on Sunday with an 8-4 victory over Godalming Town Ladies in the Final of the John Greenacre Trophy, played at Bedfont Sports FC.  The John Greenacare trophy is obviously in memory of the gentleman concerned and it is the League Cup for the top three divisions of the Greater London Womens’ League.  As Division One sides, both Ashford and Godalming did extremely well to reach the Final, which was an exciting affair on a very hot day.

Eddie Hutchinson acted as the goals recorder and he was kept busy as the scoreline suggests.  A feature of the match in the second half was that every time Godalming pulled a goal back, Ashford seemed to go straight up the field and score another one themselves.  In a largely commanding performance against a good Godalming side who have actually finished second in the League to Ashford’s third, the Tangerines goals included a hatrick by Ashley Cheatley and quite rightly, she won the “Player of the Match” Award.

Here are the scorers for both teams as recorded by Eddie (Ashford goals in tangerine!):

Ashley Cheatley, 15th, 1-0
Beth Sheehan, 23rd, 2-0
Lavana Neufville, 25th, 3-0
Megan Vincer, 35th, 3-1
Beth Sheehan, 47th, 4-1
Ellen Thomas, 55th, 4-2
Lavana Neufville, 56th, 5-2
Tamara Sidwell, 65th, 5-3
Ashley Cheatley, 66th, 6-3
Ashley Cheatley, 70th, 7-3
Becky Bloor, 84th, 7-4
Holly Isaacs, 86th, 8-4

Next season, the intention is to integrate the Ladies’ sides more fully into the club.  That will include a season ticket for all the girls to watch the Men’s matches on Saturdays whenever they wish, plus a sign at the entrance to the ground to proclaim their name.
