From the dugout with Luke Tuffs….

So after a month of nothing, here we are again as football returns to Ashford.

It may not be the competitive fixtures we all crave, but we will at least be back together and out on the grass with at least some semblance of normality for us to cling on to.

I have to confess that this month, in particularly the last week, has been some of the most challenging of certainly my footballing life. Coupled with everyone’s lives outside of football also being somewhat of a rollercoaster ride, lurching from problem to bigger problem, it is really testing the ability to stay positive, balanced, rational and forward thinking .

But positive, balanced, rational and forward thinking we must be, and so we shall, with much to be positive about.

Firstly on the pitch, when we resume, we will be just 3 points off the top of the table with 8 games played. If anything, the initial few weeks of lockdown has actually helped us as we would have struggled between then and now, with a mixture of long term injuries, niggles and fatigue catching up with us. These are now almost all gone, with Cottee, Bunners and George the last three players that are still ‘out’ (we are hoping George may be ok for a bit tomorrow). So when we return, we will have the best opportunity to hit the ground running yet!

We have a full fixture list of friendlies going forwards as we look to complete our ‘second pre season’. We are fully anticipating a closing of the league season until at least mid January, and so are planning as such.

Especially in the first ones, we have no intention to go from nothing to all, so expect to see most players getting 45 with the introducing of some youth team boys and a couple of trialists we wish to look at.

Walton Casuals have sadly had to pull out of tomorrow’s fixture, so we are now at home against Banstead Athletic. Our Surrey Senior Cup tie is still going ahead.

Full fixture list:

Saturday Dec 5th vs Banstead Athletic – (H) 3PM KO

Tuesday Dec 8th vs Reading City (A) – 7:45pm KO

Saturday Dec 12th vs Kingstonian (H) – KO time tbc, we are hoping for an early 1pm KO.

Tues Dec 15th vs Croydon – Surrey Senior Cup (H) 7:45pm KO

Sat Dec 19th vs Farnborough (A) – 1pm KO

Tues 22nd Dec TBC

In other news, we have refurbished the dressing rooms, home away and referees. These are nearly complete, and once they are we will put the results on here!

The floors are 3G’s and the walls are now filled with club legends, young and old, from contemporary to the past, from players to officials to supporters. We hope you are as proud of the results as we are! We have also got a vinyl picture filled with the junior photos sent in to us which is now proudly on the clubhouse wall by the bar.

Hope to see you all at the game tomorrow,
