It’s the final match of the season for Ashford this evening and fittingly it is the Final of the Middlesex Charity Cup, to be played at Hanwell Town FC, against fellow Bostik League rivals, Uxbridge.
To reach the Final Ashford had to beat their tenants, Southall FC (2-1), Hanworth Villa (3-0) and then, in the semi-final, Northwood FC (4-0). Uxbridge’s path to the Final has seen them beat Hanwell Town (4-3), Harrow Borough (6-5 on pens, after 2-2 draw) and Hampton & Richmond (4-1 on pens, after 0-0 draw.
In the League this season both sides won their away match, with Ashford finally finishing in 12th place and Uxbridge eight points behind in 15th. Thanks go to Ashford Patron Russell Grant, for his support in recent rounds and, of course, his best wishes for tonight.
This has been a competition in which the Tangerines have often thrived, having won it on three previous occasions, the last time being two seasons ago with victory over Wealdstone. A number of that side will doubtless be on show again this evening whilst no mention of this competition without reference to Kofi Lockhart-Adams who came on at half-time in the Final against Northwood in 2013. Ashford were three down at the interval, only to score four goals in the second period all from Kofi, and he then scored one in the penalty shoot out win, following Northwood’s late equaliser in the 90 minutes. Ashford keeper that evening, Paul McCarthy, who distinguished himself in the shoot-out will doubtless be in goal for Uxbridge this evening.
Ashford’s AGM will be held on 16 May, starting at 8.00 p.m. in the club house.
Finally huge congratulations to the Ladies upon another highly successful season. Their 3-2 win over arch rivals Godalming Town 3-1 on Sunday clinched the championship of the Premier Division of the Greater London Women’s League to ensure promotion to the South East Regional League next season and continuing participation in the Women’s FA Cup.
