Preview Sat 2 March 2019: Waltham Abbey v Ashford
On Saturday, Ashford have the final “longish” journey of the season when they make their way round the M25 to play Waltham Abby FC in what will only be their second occasion, the first being in season 2009-2010 when we were both in the Ryman League Premier Division. We managed to win that day by the only goal of the game scored by Byron Harrison.
Our opponents have generally been enjoying a good season and the two clubs could not be much closer than they are with ourselves in 8th place on 44 points and Abbey one below on 43 points. Their recent form has dipped to an extent with only one win in February, that being a 3-2 win away to Hanwell Town. There have been four defeats though, starting with a 0-3 home loss against Chipstead, followed by losses at home to Bracknell (1-5), away to Cheshunt (1-2) and then last Saturday away to Tooting (1-2).
The address of the ground is: Sewardstone Road, Waltham Abbey, Essex, EN9 1NX. From Short Lane, it is a fairly straightforward journey round the M25 to Junction 26, where you leave the motorway and come back on yourself, crossing the M25 to the ground. It is 46 miles from ground to ground. Kick-off is at 3.00 p.m. as usual. Admission is £8 (£4 OAP’s and £1 under-16’s)
