There is only time for a quick summary of the last two matches in which Ashford have travelled to both Moneyfields and Marlow, on Tuesday and Thursday respectively.
At Moneyfields, we played well despite the 0-2 loss. The match was relatively even throughout he opening 45 minutes but we went behind to an unstoppable shot. We dominated a lot of the possession in the second half, hitting the woodwork twice, although the home side had done the same in the first half. The ball wouldn’t go in though and we conceded again near the end which settled the points.
At Marlow on Thursday, we fielded something of a patched up team and it was actually quite a decent match in which the ascendancy swung from one to the other. Marlow went ahead in the second half when an effort took two deflections on its way into the net but we equalised two minutes from time when a free kick found James Cottee diverting the ball back across goal, for Jack Beadle to sweep it home.
Our final game is tomorrow completing three matches in five days and it couldn’t be much tougher on paper as travel up to Northampton to meet already promoted Rushden and Diamonds. In a tough division, we very much congratulate them upon their achievement. The championship itself is now between them and Beaconsfield and it will depend upon tomorrow’s results. Ben Murray kept some of the regular 1st Team players back on Thursday to ensure they will be available for this game.
The address of the ground is Hayden Road Football Ground, Rushden, Northants, NN10 0HX. It is just about our longest trip of the season, being around 75 miles each way.
