Preview Tuesday 5 Feb 19: Ashford v Molesey

Published by Springett on

Ashford entertain Molesey this evening in a Bostik League match, kick-off 7.45 p.m. and will doubtless be raring to go following Saturday’s postponement. The report this morning is that the pitch is playable and that no inspection is required.

Matches against Molesey are usually tight affairs and even though our visitors are surprisingly low in the table, Ashford would expect nothing less than that this evening. They have signed ex-Ashford midfield player Ashley Lodge recently and it will be good to see him at Short Lane again, albeit not in a tangerine shirt.
We managed to win at Molesey earlier in the season by two goals to nil, courtesy of Max Webb and Bradley Wilson but it was a slog of an evening. Indeed, in ten competitive games over the years, going back to the 2001-2002 season, neither Molesey nor ourselves have ever managed to score more than two goals in any one match.

This coming Saturday we travel to Hertford Town. We are meeting them this season for the first time since 2000-2001. They will be yet another side this season that we will meet immediately after a change of manager and, if the various recent tweets are anything to go by, an almost complete change of playing personnel in the space of seven days. There will be more on this match later in the week.

Hopefully the lads will have some great support from our supporters this evening. They certainly deserve it after the fighting draw against Hayes & Yeading last Saturday week which was fully deserved, thanks to two goals from Mark Bitmead, and how often have we said that or similar over the seasons, and a resolute display all round, especially from Rhys Forster in goal, deputising for the injured Tyler Tobin, and who did so well, he was voted “Hitchcock & King Ashford Player of the Match” by supporters.
