Ashford are in transition at the moment with plenty of new players wearing tangerine for the first time. It showed to an extent on Saturday, when three late goals for Spelthorne saw them win by 5 goals to 2 in a game that looked for some time as if would end in a draw. Max Webb gave Ashford an early lead but Spelthorne levelled by half-time and went ahead in the second half, only for Ashford to level things up when Leo Decabo put in a fine finish. A cracker of a free kick then hit the woodwork before an enthusiastic Spelthorne ran away with it in the closing minutes.
It’s all just practice for the real thing though and the next encounter is on Tuesday evening when Ashford travel to Camberley Town, to meet their current tenants, Badshot Lea, kick-off 7.45 p.m. whilst on Saturday, the first match at Short Lane sees Southall providing the opposition, kick-off 3.00 p.m.
The find raising event for Alfie Ward yesterday was marred by a low attendance seemingly because somebody put on Facebook that there was a bomb scare at the club, which was rubbish of course. It’s a sad world sometimes.
