For our next look at the clubs our Men’s First Team will play in 2026-27 we return to Middlesex to examine a club celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2027 – Hayes & Yeading United.
Formed in 2007 after Hayes FC (formed 1909) and Yeading FC (formed 1960) joined forces, Both had achieved glory in their own right; Hayes were Isthmian League Champions in 1995-96, which won them promotion to the Football Conference at Step 1 while Yeading won the FA Vase at Wembley in 1990 and famously reached the Third Round Proper of the FA Cup in 2004-05, playing Newcastle United at Queens Park Rangers.
The new club sold Hayes FC’s Church Road ground for housing, intending to use the proceeds partially to redevelop Yeading FC’s ground at Springfield Road. There was initial success on the pitch, before the merged club left Church Road and United won promotion to Step 1 in its second season.
Relegated at the end of their third season in the top tier of non-League football and groundsharing at Woking because of problems with the rebuild of Springfield Road, United went down again the following season into the Southern League Premier Division South. A third consecutive relegation followed in 2017, and it was at Step 4 that Hayes & Yeading United stabilised.
United had one season in Division One East of the Southern League, finishing third, before transferring to the Isthmian League South Central division, winning the championship. That placed Hayes & Yeading back in the Southern League Premier Division South and they were runners-up in that division in 2021-22, but they were beaten at home by Farnborough in the play-off final. Two seasons later, United were relegated back to the Isthmian League South Central division.
Opened in 2017, the SkyEx Community Stadium has a large Main Stand, which seats approximately 1,000 people and contains most of the other facilities, although there is a small covered standing area behind one goal. There is also a 3G pitch next to the stadium pitch.
A ground-to-ground road journey is approximately eight miles and would take just over 20 minutes in good conditions. To get there from Ashford or Stanwell by public transport you start with a bus to Hatton Cross, such as the 203, 446 or 555. Change at Hatton Cross for a 90 towards Northolt. Alight at Avondale Drive and the ground is a 20 minute walk from there.
