Tangerines on Tour: Hendon

Our return to the Isthmian League South Central division means we will renew acquaintances with one of non-League football’s most historic clubs and return to a ground we played at twice last season. Let’s learn more about the Greens of Hendon FC.

Historic headlines

A famous name in the days when football clubs were split along professional and amateur lines, Hendon FC have a European title to their name, won the FA Amateur Cup at Wembley three times and have lifted the Middlesex Senior Cup sixteen times.

In addition, the Greens reached the Third Round Proper of the FA Cup in 1974, drawing 1-1 at Newcastle United and have made six appearances in the Second Round Proper and 21 appearances in the First Round Proper.

They are also a fan-owned football club. The club declined the opportunity to become a founder member of what is now called National League South on cost grounds and spent forty consecutive years in the Isthmian League Premier Division before being laterally transferred to the Southern League Premier Division South in 2018. The Greens were in the Southern League before being transferred back to the Isthmian League but their returned to the Isthmian League’s top tier lasted only one season.

About the ground

Having lost their historic home at Claremont Road, Hendon endured a period of groundsharing before taking over Silver Jubilee Park, the former home of Kingsbury Town. Because Hendon share the ground with both Edgware & Kingsbury and Hilltop, we went there twice last season, winning both of the matches we played on the 3G pitch there in 2025-26. The ground has cover on all four sides, with seats on one touchline and behind the far end goal.

A road journey from ground to ground is 18 miles but thanks to traffic is likely to take at least 45 minutes. The least stressful way to get there by public transport is probably to take a train to Waterloo, then a Jubilee Line service to Kingsbury. From there, it is approximately a 20 minute walk along main road (turn right out of the station) and right down Townsend Lane.

Have we played them before?

Yes, we played Hendon throughout our time at Step 3 and have also met them in cup ties. The details are below.
