Tangerines Women on Tour: Brentford

Preparing for the 2026-27 season, we’re looking at the Women’s First Team’s opponents in the London & South-East Regional League Premier Division. Our third article of the series is about Brentford.

An introduction to the club

The club we now know as Brentford Women was founded in 1990 by Roger Crook as an Under-14 team when his daughter Amy needed somewhere to play. The club transitioned into adult football by merging with SmithKline Beecham FC to become Brentford Beechams. In 2005-06, the team merged again, this time with Viking Ladies. The club became formally linked with Brentford FC, initially through the club’s Football in the Community Scheme, which is now the Community Sports Trust and Amy Crook combined playing for the club (scoring 300 goals in 480 appearances) with working in the Scheme and Trust.

In 2015, coach Will Boye (who was playing for Ashford at the time) and several players left Brentford to set up our Women’s Team. By 2020, Brentford FC had brought their Women’s Team into the main club and appointed Amy Crook it’s General Manager. The Bees have enjoyed several seasons of success since, bolstered by the signings of former Tangerines Ashley Cheatley (who scored more than 320 goals in Tangerine & White), Alyssa Down and Lucy Potter. Brentford FC Women set a sixth-tier attendance record in 2022 when 5,116 fans saw them beat Watford FC Development at the Gtech Community Stadium.

About the ground

This season, Brentford will play their home matches at Uxbridge FC’s Honeycroft ground, which is eight and a half miles from the RPS by road. It’s an awkward ground to reach by public transport. The nearest station is West Drayton on the Elizabeth Line, but the 350, A10 and U5 buses pass close to the ground, although to catch one you would need to go to either Heathrow Central of Hayes.

The ground was redeveloped entirely when a 3G pitch was laid and is an impressive venue, with plenty of seats and covered standing. Previously, the Bees had been based at Bedfont Recreation Ground and Wheatsheaf Park, Staines, so these are very much ‘derby’ games both teams will look forward to.

Have we played before?

There have been seven previous meetings between the Tangerines and the Bees, including a remarkable 8-5 victory for Ashford back in 2018:
