Thatcham Town 1 – 2 Ashford

Saturday 22 August 2020 | Preseason Friendly

Another great result for the Tangerines on the road in preseason. And so good to see fans back at the game.

First game with fans able to return, and it was a great afternoon’s work by Ashford. Another top result in a preseason that has seen Luke Tuffs side developing well while trying out new systems, players, and ideas.

It was the Tangerines who struck first. Sam Humphreys opening the scoring on 11 minutes. However it wasn’t long before the home side were level. A reckless challenge in the box giving them the opportunity to convert from the resulting spot kick, 1-1.

With the usual second half changes Ashford continued their good development from previous games. Finally rewarded with a second goal on the hour. Dale Burnham slotting home after a quickly taken corner. That was to be it in terms of scoreline for the remaining half an hour, and Ashford headed home with another preseason win under their belt. Tuffs new side are working hard and the development from game to game bodes well, with some excellent workrate and energy that grows with each 90 minutes.

It was so good to see fans back watching, and made for  a much better match experience. Now it’s back to the RPS for our first home game of this 2020/21 preseason, and we are very excited to welcome our supporters back on Tuesday night. Come on you Tangerines!

(Apologies for no photos or video during the game, or in this report. Normal service will resume on Tuesday). You can however watch the goals in this video shared by Thatcham Town.
