Thu 24 Jan 19: Repos Isthmian Women’s Cup – Semi-Final: Ashford Ladies 4 Charlton Athletic Ladies 2

Published by Springett on

Facing probably their toughest test of the season against Charlton Athletic Ladies, who had won their quarter final match by seven goals to one, Ashford Ladies once again showed their resilience and in the end, were worthy winners of this exciting semi-final. The win books their place in the Final which is scheduled to take place at Aveley FC on Wednesday 17 April.

It was the visitors who drew first blood though, taking a very early lead but it wasn’t too long before Ashford equalised, when goal machine Ashley Cheatley took full advantage of a short back pass, nipping in before the keeper and steering the ball into the net from an acute angle. On the stroke of half-time, literally the final touch of the half, Lavanna Neufville headed in from close range to give Ashford the lead.

Charlton came out fighting in the second half and after a sustained period of pressure deservedly levelled the scores. For a short period, things were looking a little rocky but Ashford gathered themselves and when Lavana went in where it hurt, to grab the lead once more, the visitors were unable to come back again and with five minutes to go, Ashley made it safe as she broke away to score Ashford’s fourth and ensure a place in the Final against either Leyton Orient Ladies or Enfield Town Ladies, who play each other on Wednesday 6 February.

It’s back to the League on Sunday, when the Ladies play away to Watford Development.

In the meantime, the 1st Team have a big home game on Saturday afternoon against Hayes & Yeading and there will be more on that one a bit later.
