The club is excited to announce the arrival of Richard Keown as he joins Luke Tuff’s first team coaching staff.

As we start thinking ahead to the return of football at the RPS Luke and his team looked to add more experience and ideas with the arrival of Richard Keown this week. Having known each other since the age of seven, playing in local junior football together, Luke is really happy to have Richard onboard and states that:

Keown is a perfect addition to our management team and will add lots of value to the group.

The second you stand still in football you are going backwards, so I think adding Keown, who alongside his undoubted passion, brings a different skill set to those already in the group. He will help take us forwards.

Richard has a proven track record of developing young talent with players of his going on as far as signing professional contracts in the Football League.

His addition shows our dedication to continuing to develop the young talent we have at Ashford, and will be a welcome signing to our dressing room.

Keown brings a wealth of experience with over 10 years in coaching. After his playing career was cut short through injury at the age of just 22 he quickly moved over to the coaching side. First off working with the U23’s at Westfield, before moving up to first team coach under John Commer where they won Promotion from the CCL Premier.

From Westfield Richard moved to Knaphill and was a coach with their U23 side that won the Suburban South title. He then stepped up to become the U23 manager and guided them to the Suburban Challenge Cup. During this time he was responsible for many of the youth players breaking in to the first team. During the 2018 season Richard stepped in as interim first team manager which he did until the end of the season.

After Knaphill he has enjoyed spells at Frimley Green and Sheerwater, both as first team coach.

It is great to have Richard at the club. And we are sure you will all join us in welcoming him properly as soon as we can get back together at the stadium.
